Despite Putin's description, there is no clear consensus on what this missile actually is.
Ukrainian military intelligence said it was a new type of ICBM, called Kedar (Cedar Tree).
They said it traveled at Mach 11 and took 15 minutes to reach Dnipro, Ukraine, 1,000 km (620 miles) from its launch site in Astrakhan, Russia.
They added that the missile was carrying six warheads, each with six submunitions.
The warhead is the front part of the missile that contains the explosive agent, and the submunition is the explosive that is released from the warhead of the missile.
These are contained in a canister that then opens in mid-air and explodes over a wide area.
BBC Verify's analysis of the video also confirmed the claim. The video footage is, however, quite blurry and of poor quality.
Even then, six flashes or glimmers of light were seen in the night sky, and each flash was accompanied by six separate projectiles.
